Scholarships for Transfer Students

All of the scholarships on this page require that you Apply for Admission (and provide all supporting documents) well before our application deadline.

None of the scholarships on this page disqualify students from receiving need-based financial aid. We encourage all students to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The scholarships below are available to new transfer students planning to enroll full time at the University of Iowa during the 2015-16 academic year. Students pursuing a second bachelor’s degree are not eligible for these scholarships.

The number of scholarships is limited. Review deadline information carefully; all of these scholarships require you to submit your application for admission (and all supporting documents) well in advance of our application deadline.

2 Plus 2 Transfer Scholarship

For students transferring directly to the university from an Iowa community college who are enrolled in the 2 Plus 2 Guaranteed Graduation Plan

Application:

There is no application; eligible students are placed into a scholarship pool for consideration

Deadline:

Your application for admission to the university must be on file by March 1 for summer session or fall semester; by October 1 for spring semester

Renewal:

Renewable for a second year provided you maintain a minimum 3.00 cumulative University of Iowa grade-point average; remain in good academic standing, and maintain continuous full-time enrollment at the University of Iowa.

Up to 25 awards per year based on highest cumulative transfer grade-point average (GPA) and completion of the 2 Plus 2 checkpoints for your major

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

For transfer students who have earned 30 semester hours at the time of application, have maintained a minimum 3.50 cumulative transfer GPA, and are current members of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society. Students can not be awarded both the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship and the Iowa Community College Transfer Academic Scholarship.

 PTK Membership Confirmation Form (PDF) required; eligible students are placed in a scholarship pool for consideration

Deadline:
  • Spring Admission- If applying for spring admission, your application for admission to the university and your PTK Membership Confirmation Form (PDF) must be on file by October 3. Scholarship recipients will be notified by November 15.
  • Summer or Fall Admission- If applying for summer or fall admission, your application for admission to the university and your PTK Membership Confirmation Form (PDF) must be on file by March 6. Recipients will be notified by April 15.
Renewal:

Renewable for a second year provided you maintain a minimum 3.00 cumulative University of Iowa grade-point average; remain in good academic standing; and maintain full-time enrollment at the University of Iowa.

Up to 15 awards based on highest GPAs

Iowa Community College Transfer Academic Scholarship

For students transferring to the university directly from an Iowa community college who have earned 30 semester hours at the time of application and have maintained a minimum 3.85 cumulative transfer GPA. Students can not be awarded both the Iowa Community College Transfer Academic Scholarship and the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship.

  • Summer or Fall Admission- If applying for summer or fall admission, your application for admission to the university must be on file by March 1. Recipients will be notified by April 15.

Up to 35 awards based on highest GPAs

Iowa Heritage Award (Transfer)

For incoming nonresident students who have a parent, stepparent, legal guardian, or grandparent who graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree

Value:

$1,500

Minimum Requirements:

Must have a 2.50 cumulative transfer grade-point average (GPA) at the time of application

Deadline:

 May 25 for Summer Session and Fall Semester; December 19 for Spring Semester

Renewal:

Renewable for a second year provided you maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative University of Iowa grade-point average; maintain full-time enrollment; and continue to pay nonresident tuition.

All-Iowa Academic Team Scholarship

For students named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Iowa Academic Team

All-USA Academic Team Scholarship

For students named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-USA Academic Team

Value:

Equal to Resident Tuition

Application:

Renewable for a second year provided you maintain a minimum 3.00 cumulative University of Iowa grade-point average; remain in good academic standing; and maintain full-time enrollment at the University of Iowa.

Carver Scholars Program

Up to 20 awards for students beginning their junior year in college who have earned 60 semester hours, have a minimum 2.80 cumulative transfer GPA, and have overcome unusual barriers to achieve their educational goals

Value:

$5,200

Minimum Requirements:

Students must be U.S. Citizen, Iowa residents and have graduated from an Iowa high school or have lived in Iowa for five consecutive years.

Application:

Submit the FAFSA by March 1; complete the scholarship application on the Carver Trust Website by April 1.

Renewal:

Renewable for a second year or until your bachelor’s degree is received, whichever comes first.

UI Tuition Scholarship for Iowa Community College Transfers

For students who have earned an associates degree, are transferring directly to the university from an Iowa community college, have a minimum 3.00 cumulative transfer GPA, and demonstrate financial need through the UI financial aid application process. Number of awards varies.

Value:

$200 to full Resident Tuition (depending on financial need)

Application:

Submit the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1. No separate scholarship application is required.

Deadline:

Awarded from limited funds on a first-come, first-served basis.

UI Tuition Scholarship for Transfer Students

For students who have earned 24 semester hours, maintained a minimum 3.00 cumulative transfer GPA, and who demonstrate financial need; number of awards varies

Value:

$200 to full Resident Tuition (depending on financial need)

Application:

Submit the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1. No separate scholarship application is required.

Deadline:

The scholarship is awarded from limited funds on a first-come, first-served basis.

Engineering Transfer Scholarship

Up to 15 awards for transfer students admitted to the College of Engineering for summer or fall with at least 12 semester hours earned toward the engineering degree and a minimum 3.25 GPA on courses that will be applied toward the engineering degree

BAS/BLS Iowa Community College Transfer Scholarship

For qualified applicants in the Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) or Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) program

Value:

$1,000

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must be admitted into the university's BAS or BLS degree program by July 1 and have earned an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degree from an Iowa community college.
