
Scholarships for Transfer Students
The scholarships below are available to new, incoming transfer students planning to enroll full time (for 12 or more semester hours) at the university. Students planning to enroll part-time and those pursuing a second bachelor’s degree are not eligible for these scholarships.
The number of scholarships is limited. Review deadline information carefully; all of these scholarships require you to submit your application for admission (and all supporting documents) well before our application deadline.
2 Plus 2 Transfer Scholarship
For students transferring directly to the university from an Iowa community college who are enrolled in the 2 Plus 2 Guaranteed Graduation Plan
- Value: $1,000
- Eligibility: 25 awards per year based on highest cumulative transfer grade-point average (GPA) and completion of the 2 Plus 2 checkpoints for your major
- Application Process: There is no application; eligible students are placed into a scholarship pool for consideration
- Deadlines: Your application for admission to the university must be on file by March 1 for summer session or fall semester; by October 1 for spring semester
- Renewal: You can receive this award for a second year if you maintain a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA on all course work attempted; remain in good academic standing with your college each semester; and maintain continuous, full-time enrollment at the University of Iowa.

Iowa Heritage Award
For incoming nonresident students who have a parent, stepparent, legal guardian, or grandparent who graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree
- Value: $1,500
- Application: Iowa Heritage Award Application (PDF)
- Deadline: May 17 for Summer Session and Fall Semester; December 14 for Spring Semester
- Renewal: You can receive this award for a second year providing you remain in good academic standing with your college; maintain continuous, full-time enrollment each semester; and continue to pay nonresident tuition.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
For transfer students who have earned 30 semester hours at the time of application, have maintained a minimum 3.50 cumulative transfer GPA, and are current members of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society
- Value: $1,000
- Eligibility: Up to 15 awards based on highest GPAs
- Application Process: PTK Membership Confirmation Form (PDF) required; eligible students are placed in a scholarship pool for consideration
- Deadlines:
- Spring Admission- If applying for spring admission, your application for admission to the university and your PTK Membership Confirmation Form (PDF) must be on file by October 15. Scholarship recipients will be notified by November 15.
- Summer or Fall Admission- If applying for summer or fall admission, your application for admission to the university and your PTK Membership Confirmation Form (PDF) must be on file by March 15. Recipients will be notified by April 15.
- Renewal: You can receive this award a second year if you maintain a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA on all course work attempted; remain in good academic standing with your college each semester; and maintain continuous, full-time enrollment at the University of Iowa.

Iowa Community College Transfer Academic Scholarship
For students transferring to the university directly from an Iowa community college who have earned 30 semester hours at the time of application and have maintained a minimum 3.85 cumulative transfer GPA
- Value: $1,000
- Eligibility: Up to 35 awards based on highest GPAs
- Application Process: There is no application; eligible students are placed in a scholarship pool for consideration
- Deadlines:
- Spring Admission- If applying for spring admission, your application for admission to the university must be on file by October 15. Scholarship recipients will be notified by November 15.
- Summer or Fall Admission- If applying for summer or fall admission, your application for admission to the university must be on file by March 15. Recipients will be notified by April 15.
- Renewal: You can receive this award a second year providing maintain a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA on all course work attempted; remain in good academic standing with your college each semester; and maintain continuous, full-time enrollment at the University of Iowa.

All-Iowa Academic Team Scholarship
For students named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Iowa Academic Team
- Value: $1,500
- Application Process: Send a copy of your All-Iowa Academic Team award certificate or confirmation letter to the Office of Admissions, 107 Calvin Hall, The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242-1396 (Attn: Cindy Roberts). Alternatively, you may submit an electronic copy via Email.
- Renewal: You can receive this award a second year if you maintain a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA on all course work attempted; remain in good academic standing with your college each semester; and maintain continuous, full-time enrollment at the University of Iowa.

All-USA Academic Team Scholarship
For students named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-USA Academic Team (first, second, or third team)
- Value: Equal to Resident Tuition
- Application Process: Send a copy of your All-USA Academic Team award certificate or confirmation letter to the Office of Admissions, 107 Calvin Hall, The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242-1396 (Attn: Cindy Roberts). Alternatively, you may submit an electronic copy via Email.

Engineering Transfer Scholarship
Up to 15 awards for transfer students admitted to the College of Engineering for summer or fall with at least 12 semester hours earned toward the engineering degree and a minimum 3.25 GPA on courses that will be applied toward the engineering degree
- Value: $1,000

- Deadline: March 31
- Renewal: One-time award

UI Tuition Scholarship for Iowa Community College Transfers
For students who have earned an AA degree, are transferring directly to the university from an Iowa community college, have a minimum 3.00 cumulative transfer GPA, and demonstrate financial need through the UI financial aid application process. Number of awards varies.
- Value: $200 to full Resident Tuition (depending on financial need)
- Application Process & Deadlines: Submit the FAFSA and all supporting documents as soon as possible after January 1. No separate scholarship application is required; awarded from limited funds on a first-come, first-served basis.

UI Tuition Scholarship for Transfer Students
For students who have earned 24 semester hours, maintained a minimum 3.00 cumulative transfer GPA, and who demonstrate financial need; number of awards varies
- Value: $200 to full Resident Tuition (depending on financial need)
- Application Process & Deadlines: Submit the FAFSA and supporting documents as soon as possible after January 1. No separate scholarship application is required; the scholarship is awarded from limited funds on a first-come, first-served basis.

Carver Scholars Program
Up to 20 awards for students beginning their junior year in college who have earned 60 semester hours, have a minimum 2.80 cumulative transfer GPA, and have overcome unusual barriers to achieve their educational goals
- Value: $5,200
- Eligibility: Students must be Iowa residents and have graduated from an Iowa high school or have lived in Iowa for five consecutive years.
- Application Process & Deadlines: Submit the FAFSA and all supporting documents by March 1; complete the scholarship application on the Carver Trust Website by April 1.
- Renewal: May be renewed for one year or until your bachelor’s degree is received, whichever comes first.

BAS/BLS Iowa Community College Transfer Scholarship
For qualified applicants in the Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) or Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) program
- Value: $1,000
- Eligibility: Applicants must be admitted into the university's BAS or BLS degree program by July 1 and have earned an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degree from an Iowa community college.
