Returning Students

The application process for returning students varies depending on how long you have been absent from the university.

International Students should contact the University's International Student and Scholar Services (isss@uiowa.edu) for information about immigration status and returning to the U.S.

  • If you have been absent less than 12 months, contact your academic advisor about registering for classes.
  • If you have been absent more than 12 months, you must apply for readmission to the university at least two weeks before classes begin for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Each college has its own re-entry policies, so it is important to check with the college you are re-entering to determine the timeline for submitting a re-entry application.

Change of College Application for Current Students

This information is for current or former University of Iowa students who want to apply to a different undergraduate degree program than the one they are enrolled in (or were previously enrolled in). If you are a returning student, the process is different (see above)

  1. Log into MyUI.
  2. Select "Advising" in the top navigation bar.
  3. Select "Change of College Application" (found under the "Planning & Resources" section).
  4. Select the college/program you are applying to from the drop-down menu.
  5. Select the session you would like the change to become effective.
  6. Provide answers to the supplemental questions for the selected program.
  7. Submit the application.

If you want to switch majors within the same college, you should contact your academic advisor. If you want to change colleges, you must apply and follow the specific application process for those colleges.
