A comparison of 500 public universities and colleges, The University of Iowa Iowa ranked #47 among the top 100 "Best Values in Public Colleges for 2011-12" in Kiplinger magazine.
The 2012 ranking, which puts Iowa in the top 10% of all public schools considered, measured admission rates, test scores of incoming first-year students, four- and six-year graduation rates, tuition, fees, room and board expenses, and financial aid distribution. The editors used these factors to determine which schools offer the best in academic quality and affordability.
"We are excited to begin (2012) by highlighting a ranking that we strive to get better at each year, Kiplinger’s Best Value in Public Colleges," UI President Sally Mason said shortly after the report's publication, noting that Iowa's ranking climbed up from 62nd the previous year. "I can assure you that we will not rest but will continue to be forward thinking in order to deliver excellence in the classroom and across Iowa."
