Athletic Hall of Fame- Roy G. Karro Building

The University of Iowa Hall of Fame has three floors of Hawkeye memories; from the National Championship trophies to the Orange Bowl trophy to Nile Kinnick’s Heisman trophy. The UI Athletics Hall of Fame is located at the northwest corner of Melrose Avenue and Mormon Trek Boulevard, about 3 miles west of campus. The facility is open Monday through Thursday: 11:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Friday: 11:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. Saturday: 10:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. Sunday Noon to 5:00p.m. Hours of operation may change on game days for the Hawkeyes. Carver Hawkeye Arena/Kinnick Stadium

Currently tours are not being given of these facilities. These facilities are considered working facilities – meaning athletes and staff use these facilities regularly – practicing, training and possibly being treated for injuries. These buildings are open during events, and access to the field Hansen Football Practice Facility lobby is open during business hours Monday through Friday. The lobby area consists of all trophies for viewing.

Tours are given by appointment only, and tours of the newsroom are available upon request. Tours last between 30 and 45 minutes and can handle up to 10 people at a time. During the academic year, tours are available Monday through Thursday from 12pm to 5pm. summer tours are also available. Please call at least two weeks in advance of your visit to schedule a tour.

Campus Recreation and Wellness Center

Please contact (319) 335-9293 to make an appointment for a tour. Tours are available by appointment only. Tours last between 20-30 minutes and can accommodate most any size group. Tours are given from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and weekend tours are also a possibility. Self-guided tours are also available within building hours; staff is always present to answer any questions. If you are already going on a campus tour during your special group visit you will go into the CRWC and get a brief description of the building and services, but not a full tour.

Museum of Natural History, Macbride Hall

The Museum of Natural History has four permanent galleries: Iowa Hall (covering the geology, archeology, and ecology of our state), Mammal Hall, the Hageboeck Hall of Birds, and the new Biosphere Discovery Hub (“Iowa’s gateway to our global environment”). Tours focus on the exhibits in Iowa Hall, and tours of the Bird and Mammal Galleries are mostly self-guided by the groups. All tours are free. The museum requests that you call to schedule your tour at least a week before the desired date.

Tours are scheduled at 9:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 (with additional tour times on Thursday evenings). Each tour block can fit up to 30 visitors. One-hour tours are available of the newly renovated Old Capitol building, which is the original Capitol for the state of Iowa.
