Samantha Lane lives by her Outlook calendar.
That’s because her days are packed to the brim. She’s spearheading a new division at Stryker Performance Solutions, a major biomedical device corporation. She volunteers her time on a young professionals board at Clearbrook, a Chicago-based organization dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities. She sits on the University of Iowa Alumni Board of Directors.
For Megan Jasin, connecting with the right people is more than a good career move—it’s her livelihood.
Now a Marketing Coordinator for City Carton Recycling Company in Iowa City, Jasin said she wouldn’t be where she is today if she hadn’t stepped out of her comfort zone to embrace networking. Every connection has led to new career opportunities and made her a competitive Millennial in the communications industry.
A story is never just a story for Lauren Mills.
“Journalism is that opportunity to be connected to your community, to be connected to things that are going on in politics. Journalism is finding ways to communicate what’s going on with your community,” Mills, an investigative journalist, said. “I just find that to be really appealing. And I think that it’s also incredibly valuable to the community.”
For Emily Vyverberg, providing quality healthcare is all in the family.
Now she’s carrying on the tradition as a pharmacist at Hartig Drug in Dubuque, Iowa.
“I love helping people,” Vyverberg said. “I enjoy helping people improve their quality of life and health. I enjoy the challenge of the job.”
Anthony Berger is well on his way to becoming a reconstructive surgeon. But his interest in the sciences didn’t spawn over a Bunsen burner in chemistry lab; it all started way before that with a melody.
With one externship, Adelaide Caprio found her niche.
“That’s how I knew I would be working with babies for the rest of my life,” Caprio said of her externship in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 2006. The externship was part of her experience earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Iowa.
