Chemistry Transfer Tips

Students may earn either a Bachelor of Art (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry. This major can be sequenced in four semesters. Students may transfer either sophomore or junior year and still complete the major. 

Students should complete the following courses, if available, before transferring:

  • CHEM:1110 Principles of Chemistry I and CHEM:1120 Principles of Chemistry II (Note: Both of these courses should be taken at the same college/university.)
  • CHEM:2230 Organic Chemistry I and CHEM:2240 Organic Chemistry II (Note: Both of these courses should be taken at the same college/university.)
  • MATH:1850 Calculus I
  • PHYS:1611 Introductory Physics I and PHYS:1612 Introductory Physics II OR PHYS:1511 College Physics I and PHYS:1512 College Physics II

Prospective Chemistry majors should consult the Chemistry website for more information. 

Transfer students with an AA degree from an Iowa or Illinois community college will enter the University of Iowa having fulfilled all of the General Education CORE Program requirements (except World Language and Understanding Cultural Perspectives) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
