Computer Science Transfer Tips

Students may earn a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science.

The BA can be sequenced in four semesters if the student completes all three CS courses below prior to transferring. Students may transfer either sophomore or junior year and still complete the major.

Students should complete the following courses, if available, before transferring.

  • CS:1210 Computer Science I: Fundamentals
  • CS:2210 Discrete Structures
  • CS:2230 Computer Science II: Data Structures
  • MATH:1850 Calculus I
  • MATH:1860 Calculus II

Prospective BS majors should check the UI catalog for additional math, natural science, and statistics requirements that may be transferable.

Transfer students with an AA degree from an Iowa Community College, or Black Hawk College in Illinois, will enter the University having fulfilled all of the General Education Program requirements (except World Language and Diversity & Inclusion) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Prospective transfer students should contact the University of Iowa Office of Admissions, 319-335-1566, for information about applying.

Prospective Computer Science majors should contact Emma Kirk, emma-kirk@uiowa.edu, 319-335-0793, with questions about the major.
