One of the pathways to a Nursing Degree is for students to first earn an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Degree at a community college and then transfer into the University of Iowa to pursue the RN-BSN Degree. To be considered for admission into the RN-BSN program, students must have completed or be in the process of completing all prerequisites. A cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher is also preferred. However, all applications are reviewed for consideration, so you are still encouraged to apply if your GPA is less than 2.75.

This degree program is designed for working nurses. It is completed entirely online, except for two practicum experiences that can be done locally to where you live. This means you can live and work wherever you would like. Three plans of study are available to choose from.

Fall and Spring start options are offered. Applications to be considered for a Fall start are due by March 1. Applications to be considered for a Spring start are due by September 1. 

A good first step is to get a transcript evaluation. To request a transcript evaluation, please email copies of unofficial transcripts from all colleges that you've attended and answer the following questions:

• Name (including maiden name, if applicable)
• What month/year did you (or do you plan to) receive your nursing degree from the community college
• What year did you graduate high school?
• Did you take a foreign language in high school?
  • If yes, what language and how many years (i.e., Spanish II, French III)
• List all colleges/universities you have attended
