With the launch of the new Office of Writing and Communication (OWC), students now have a unified hub for guidance, workshops, and mentorship to help them sharpen these valuable skills.
“This new office reflects our commitment to investing in excellence, fostering collaboration, and advancing innovative programming that prepares our students for success,” says Kevin Kregel, executive vice president and provost.
The newly hired OWC executive director, Daniel Khalastchi, will lead the first phase of work during this academic year, focusing on campus engagement and strategic planning.
“Writing and communication are essential in every discipline, and Iowa has long been a place where these skills are nurtured, celebrated, and elevated,” says Khalastchi.
The OWC will connect a wide range of programs — such as the renowned Iowa Writers’ Workshop and the Undergraduate Writing Certificate — strengthening visibility and resources for students across campus.
