International Studies Transfer Tips

Student can earn a BA (Bachelor of Arts) from International Studies.

Students in International Studies develop global perspectives and skills required for life and careers i nthe 21st century. The BA in International Studies provides students with core knowledge in this multidisciplinary field, enables them to choose their own coursework to learn about global themes and world cultures, and provides capstone experiences and career-development coursework to help students put their knowledge into practice. Students work closely with an academic advisor to plan their program of study to meet their unique interests and goals.

This major can be sequenced in four semesters. Students may transfer either sophomore or junior year and still complete the major.

Students should prepare to take advanced foreign language beyond the General Education CORE Program requirement or begin study of a second foreign language as required for the major. Therefore, if possible, students should start or continue with foreign language courses before transferring.

Students who plan to complete their AA degree at an Iowa Community college should consider the 2 Plus 2 Guaranteed Graduation Plan.

Use the 2 Plus 2 website and the Online Equivalency Guide to determine appropriate transfer course equivalencies. Transfer students with an AA degree from an Iowa or Illinois community college will enter the university having fulfilled all of the General Education CORE Program requirements (except World Language and Diversity and Inclusion) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
