Sport Media and Culture Transfer Tips
Students can earn a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Sport Media and Culture.
48 semester hours (s.h.) of work is required for the major: 33 s.h. in Sport Media and Culture and 15 s.h. in a secondary area or a minor in another department. At least 24 s.h. of credit for the major must be earned at The University of Iowa.
Transfer students with an AA degree from an Iowa or Illinois community college will enter the university having fulfilled all of the General Education CORE Program requirements (except World Language and Understanding Cultural Perspectives) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
The major requires a minimum of 15 s.h. in a second area of specialization. Most common areas include:
Journalism
The relationship between sport and the media has never been so pervasive, and the sport media and culture degree provides a strong academic foundation for students interested in exploring that relationship within the field of sport journalism or sports information. A good second area for this would be a second major in Journalism or a minor in News and Media Literacy.
Sport Management
The sport media and culture degree provides a strong academic foundation for students interested in the field of sport management. A good second area for this would be a Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management; or a second major or minor in Sport and Recreation Management.
