Join us on campus and learn about the college admission process at the University of Iowa's Small Town and Rural Student Visit Day.

The Small Town and Rural Student (STARS) College Network, partners with top colleges to ensure that students from rural and small-town America have the information and support they need to enroll and graduate from the college or university of their choice. Join us on the University of Iowa campus to learn about the college admission process. 

While some University of Iowa-specific information will be presented, the event will generally focus on the admissions process as a whole, sharing information that will be beneficial no matter where students choose to apply.

The University of Iowa will be joined by representatives from these STARS network member schools:

  • University of Notre Dame

  • Auburn University

Financial reimbursement to offset travel costs is available to those in need. Hotels will not be covered in this reimbursement program.

  • 9:30–10 a.m. Check-in and Breakfast
    • Representatives from the University of Iowa Admissions, University of Iowa Honors Program, First Gen Hawks, the Iowa TRIO program, Auburn University, and the University of Notre Dame will be available for questions at this time.
  • 10–11 a.m. Welcome, STARS Network Overview, and STARS Partner Introductions
  • 11 a.m.–12 p.m. Campus Walking Tour
  • 12–12:45 p.m. Complimentary lunch in Catlett Residence Hall
  • 1–1:30 p.m. Understanding the College Admissions Process
    • This session covers everything you need to know about the college admissions process. From defining common terms to providing tips and tricks, this session will help students and their families navigate college admissions with confidence.
  • 1:30-2 p.m. The Rural Student Perspective
    • Ask our panel of current University of Iowa students any questions you have about the transition from a small town to a Big Ten college.
  • 2-2:15 p.m. Break
  • 2:15–2:45 p.m. Financial Aid and Merit Scholarships
    • A general overview of the financial aid and scholarship process, including common terminology, types of aid, and advice for you to maximize financial aid no matter where you choose to apply.
  • 2:45 p.m. Open house: ask questions to representatives from Iowa, Auburn, and Notre Dame

Mileage Reimbursement
