Sport and Recreation Management Transfer Tips

The Sport and Recreation Management degree is designed for students preparing for positions with sport and club teams, community recreation, intercollegiate and high school athletics programs, international sport organizations, national and international amateur sport organizations, firms specializing in sport marketing, sport sponsorship, and commercial fitness businesses. It also provides a foundation for graduate study in sport or recreation management, and other related graduate degree programs.

This degree offers a comprehensive curriculum with a unique integrative business approach. The goal is to prepare leaders to meet the challenges in the global sport arena. The faculty is committed to creating a collaborative and nurturing learning environment for analyzing and resolving the challenges in the business and culture of sports nationally and internationally.

Students can earn a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Sport and Recreation Management. Total required semester hours is 48 (27 Foundation, 12 Concentration Area, and 9 Field Experience).

Course work for the Business Studies Concentration Area can be completed prior to transfer. However, for other concentration areas course work generally will be completed in residence at Iowa.

Business Studies

A student must complete at least 12 semester hours from the following course selections in order to complete the concentration area for Business Studies. A student may complete any remaining requirements for concentration area after transferring to Iowa.

Complete the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education Requirements. Use the 2 Plus 2 website and the Online Equivalency Guide to determine appropriate transfer course equivalencies. Transfer students with an AA degree from an Iowa or Illinois community college will enter the university having fulfilled all of the General Education CORE Program requirements (except World Language and Diversity and Inclusion) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. 
 
Complete the fourth level of a single world language as needed for Iowa's General Education Program.

Sports and Recreation Management majors should consider the 2 plus 2 Guaranteed Graduation Plan if they plan to complete their AA degree at an Iowa Community College prior to transferring.
