The University of Iowa Tippie College of Business offers a nationally ranked business degree and unique, hands-on opportunities to set you apart. Tippie students choose from six majors in addition to learning fundamental business principles from the college's core curriculum.
The Tippie College of Business admits highly qualified first-year students through its Direct Admission Program.
To be eligible for direct admission as a first-year student, you must:
- Meet the high school course requirements.
- Present an ACT composite score of 26 or higher (SAT: 1230).
- Present a high school GPA of 3.60 or higher.
Applicants who meet high school course requirements and either the test score or GPA requirement will be carefully considered for direct admission. Students may be admitted to this college without a test score.
Students who meet at least one of the two guaranteed criteria will be evaluated as a pool, and decisions will be made the first of each month, (December through March). The sooner you apply, the more chances you have to be admitted.
Applying early means you’ll have plenty of time to apply for business scholarships available to direct admit and prebusiness students. The priority deadline for graduating high school seniors to apply for Tippie scholarships is December 15. Applications completed after that date will be reviewed subject to the availability of additional funds.
What if I don't meet direct admit criteria?
Students who are not admitted directly into the College of Business still have a path to a business degree. If you meet the admission criteria for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, you will start as pre-business major in that college. During your second year at Iowa, you'll apply for standard admission to the Tippie College of Business.
First-year students admitted to Iowa as a pre-business student also have the option to petition for direct admission.

If you don't meet either of our direct admission criteria but experienced extraordinary adversity or if you became eligible after the May acceptance deadline, you can petition to be included in the pool for review. You must be admitted to the University of Iowa as a prebusiness student to petition.
