Exercise Science graduates, especially those that have taken advantage of practicum and internship opportunities, are prepared to work in fitness/performance professions such as strength and conditioning, sport coaching, personal training, and group fitness. A degree in Exercise Science also offers excellent preparation for health profession programs such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation (and other clinical exercise fields), chiropractic, and medical school.

If you plan on or are attending a community college in Iowa, check the list of specific coursework to take prior to starting at Iowa.

Students should complete the following courses, if available, before transferring:

• The Anatomy and Physiology sequence equivalent to HHP:2100 Human Anatomy and 2400 Fundamentals of Human Physiology.
• HHP:2310 Nutrition and Health
• The major Mathematics or Statistics requirement
• The major Chemistry and Biology requirements
• The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education Requirements
  • Transfer students with an AA degree from an Iowa or Illinois community college will enter the university having fulfilled all of the General Education CORE Program requirements (except World Language and Understanding Cultural Perspectives) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
• Admission Requirements for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
• For students who intend on later applying to a professional school or Physician Associate School: no Biology class should be taken in Community College and students should aim to complete CHEM:1110 and CHEM:1120 before starting at Iowa.
