"I loved how interconnected the campus is with the community. Because my family would be so far away, I wanted to find a campus that would allow me multiple opportunities to build a support system within the community. I didn't want to just be a college student on a college campus but also a member of the off-campus community."
Her interest in Psychology and Pre-Pharmacy comes from a fascination with how the brain influences daily life and a desire to combine that knowledge with healthcare and patient care.
Shelby serves as Co-President of Blood Club, volunteers through STAR in the Office of Admissions, and has participated in events supporting Pharm@UI students. These opportunities have allowed her to make a difference in the community while helping future healthcare professionals.
A memorable academic experience was helping lead a group of prospective pre-pharmacy students through their visit and sharing advice from her own journey in the program.
Her advice is to get involved early. Student organizations provide opportunities to meet people, gain experience, and make Iowa feel like home.
