"I always knew I wanted to go to a big school, and when I came to Iowa, I fell in love with the campus. I looked into Iowa because of its amazing programs, but I had no idea I would be obsessed with it after my first visit. I really enjoy how Iowa City is right across the street from campus, all of the student resources, and the great atmosphere!"
Her passion for science and healthcare developed early in life, leading her to pursue Biochemistry and Molecular Biology on the Pre-PA track. She enjoys exploring both the biological and chemical processes that influence human health.
Among her favorite courses have been Foundations of Biology and Diversity of Form and Function. While challenging, these classes strengthened her understanding of science and deepened her appreciation for the field.
Ellie conducts research through the University's Women's Health Unit, contributes to a tissue biobank, participates in Pre-PA Club, and serves as a leader within the Newman Catholic Student Center. Through these opportunities, she has gained valuable professional experience while building lasting connections.
One thing that surprised Ellie about her major was the close relationship between the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Carver College of Medicine. This connection provides students with unique opportunities to work alongside faculty and healthcare professionals.
Her advice to incoming students is to take full advantage of the resources available at Iowa and remain open to unexpected opportunities that can shape their college experience.
