"I've grown up being a Hawkeye fan, and once I was set on nursing, I knew the University of Iowa was the place for me. The moment I visited, I could feel this was my new home. I could tell there were plenty of options to be involved on and off campus. I also valued the Iowa City feel, and how interlinked the campus is with the city."
Her passion for helping others and working with children inspired her to pursue Nursing while adding a minor in Human Relations. She was drawn to a career that would allow her to make a positive difference in people's lives every day.
One of her favorite courses has been Human Growth and Development, where she gained a deeper understanding of the different stages of life and human development.
Kate is involved in Dance Marathon, Women in Healthcare, Letters of Love, Students to Assist Recruitment, and works as a campus tour guide. Through these organizations, she has found community while supporting meaningful causes and helping future Hawkeyes discover Iowa.
One of her most memorable experiences at Iowa has been participating in the Hawkeye Wave during football games. The tradition serves as a powerful reminder of the connection between the university and the families at the children's hospital.
Within the College of Nursing, Kate has appreciated the intentional effort to connect students through cohort events and bonding activities that strengthen friendships and support networks.
Her advice to future students is to get involved. Iowa offers opportunities for everyone, and stepping outside your comfort zone can lead to incredible friendships and experiences.
