"Both of my parents are Hawkeyes, so it was already on my radar. I really enjoyed the size of Iowa City and how it blended directly into campus. I also saw that there were both exceptional liberal arts programs and strong sciences, like the writing program and the medical campus."
Her passion for sustainability began after taking a first-year Honors seminar focused on environmental issues. That experience inspired her to pursue degrees in Geographical and Sustainability Science and Environmental Policy, allowing her to explore how people and the environment interact.
One of Nina's favorite courses has been Environmental Remote Sensing, where she learned how technology can be used to better understand environmental systems and solve real-world challenges.
Outside the classroom, Nina works in the Admissions Visitor Center as a tour guide, panelist, and coordinator, helping prospective students and families discover what makes Iowa special. She is also involved in undergraduate research and volunteers with the Iowa Raptor Project, where she contributes to bird conservation efforts and migration studies.
One of her most memorable experiences at Iowa was attending the women's basketball game at Kinnick Stadium during her first year and sitting courtside close to Caitlin Clark.
For future Hawkeyes, Nina's advice is to trust both your heart and your head throughout the college search process. Everyone's path is different, and the best decision is the one that feels right for you.
