Grace chose to major in Business Analytics because of its increasing relevance in nearly every industry, from entertainment and sports to finance. The skills she’s gaining in this field are transferable to a wide variety of potential careers that align with her personal interests. Her favorite course so far has been Database Management, where she learned how to structure and organize large quantities of data.

Growing up just 30 minutes from campus and coming from a family of Iowa alumni, Grace has been connected to the University of Iowa for as long as she can remember—she even attended her first Hawkeye football game before she could walk! While these connections initially influenced her decision to attend Iowa, she has since found her own independence and identity as a Hawkeye. The University has provided her with amazing resources and opportunities, particularly within the Business Analytics program, which has grown significantly in recent years, offering her access to courses and materials that will give her a competitive edge in the workforce.

For Grace, one of the most defining moments of her time at Iowa was choosing her major. Initially, she considered Management or Marketing before taking the required Intro to Business Analytics course, a field she hadn’t previously been familiar with. That class opened her eyes to the opportunities in Business Analytics and helped her find her place within the Tippie College of Business.

Grace’s advice for incoming students is to get involved in as many organizations and activities as possible, even if you don’t know anyone. "I’ve met so many amazing people and expanded my network by participating in things on my own and trying new experiences."
