"The thing I like most about attending the University of Iowa is the different communities you meet while studying on campus. I have enjoyed meeting many different people through the different classes I take and clubs I join, all while everyone has a common love for the Hawkeyes."
Jillian decided to pursue her Communication Studies and Cinema majors as she has always been interested in the production side of things in the film industry. Communication Studies allows her to understand how to be a good leader and work as a team, while Cinema lets her see how the production of films works firsthand.
She chose to come to the University of Iowa because she could study the three subjects she is interested in (communications, cinema, and screenwriting) easily while having a lot of flexibility in her schedule at the same time. The Hawkeye pride she felt coming to campus for the first time made her excited to study here as well.
She is a member of the Iowa Pep Band (IPB), which has given her so many great experiences. The IPB is great as it allows her to continue to play her instrument from high school and socialize with many other students interested in music, all while cheering on Iowa basketball.
The most memorable experience she has had as a student at Iowa was playing with the band at the women's basketball game where Caitlin Clark shot the buzzer-beating basket to beat Indiana. They all were so excited, and the volume of cheering in the arena was unbelievable.
Her advice would be to "join organizations and introduce yourself to the person next to you in class because having friends and familiar faces around campus makes this school truly feel like home."
