"I love the people the most about attending the UI. Everywhere you go there is always someone there to say hi and have a quick chat between classes."
Skylar’s passion for political science began when she read To Kill a Mockingbird, which inspired her to pursue a career in law to help fight for justice and equality. One of her favorite classes so far has been Immigration Politics.
She chose the University of Iowa partly because of her Hawkeye family, but also because of the flexibility in the political science program, which allows her to take classes that align with her interests. She appreciates how easy it has been to add minors and certificates that complement her major.
Skylar has been involved in several organizations including Undergraduate Student Government, Students to Assist Recruitment, and the Undergraduate Political Science Association. She has also taken on roles as a peer mentor, tutor, and teacher’s aide. "These activities are important to me because they have expanded the people I got to meet and have solidified friendships I never would have had without these clubs. They have also broadened my perspective on what you can achieve on campus!"
Her advice to incoming students is to keep an open mind and get involved. "Don’t be afraid to try new clubs and experiences! You never know who you might meet or what interests you might find. The University of Iowa has so much to offer, so take advantage of it!"
