Ava has always had a passion for reading, which inspired her to pursue English as her major. She plans to attend law school after graduation, leading her to complement her studies with a business degree.
Her favorite class so far has been Higher Education and Social Justice, where her engaging professor makes learning both fun and impactful.
What she loves most about the University of Iowa is the kindness of its students. “Iowa nice is a real thing,” she says, and she enjoys the natural beauty of Iowa City, with the Old Capitol and the Iowa River adding to its charm.
One of her most memorable experiences was waking up at 5:30 a.m. to attend the Michigan State football game. She and her friends waited in line for five hours to secure front-row seats. The friendships they formed while waiting made the experience unforgettable, leading to an amazing view of the game.
As an English major, Ava loves her classes, often feeling like she’s in a book club. Her advice to incoming students is to “try something new every week. College is the perfect time to open yourself up to new experiences and people. Whether it's a random pottery class or inviting a new friend for coffee, just go for it!”
